Happy Bangus Festival 2024

The Bangus Festival in Dagupan City, Philippines, celebrates the city's renowned milkfish industry while honoring its patron saint, St. John the Fisherman. Originating in the early 1990s as a simple Bangus harvest display, the event has since evolved into a vibrant festival featuring lively street dance competitions. However, concerns arose regarding the overshadowing of St. John the Evangelist, the city's patron saint. To address this, Mayor Belen Fernandez incorporated biblical references, highlighting St. John's past as a fisherman and linking the festival to the community's socio-religious heritage.

Now, the Bangus Festival begins with a unique Easter Sunday mass, known as "Abet-abet ed Olin Inbilay," celebrating the city's patron saint and transforming the event into a joyful community thanksgiving.

DAGUPAN CITY: THE DIAMOND CITY OF THE NORTH. The city was declared a chartered city through Republic Act No. 170 authored by former House Speaker Eugenio Perez Sr.

The city’s diamond jubilee founding anniversary was on June 20, 2022 but the new administration of Mayor Belen Fernandez wanted to celebrate it year-long to give more emphasis to the milestone of the city and its people.
