DAGUPAN COMMEMORATES 78TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY WITH HISTORIC MASS TREE PLANTING, ROLLS OUT FREE ‘UNLISERBISYO’ SERVICES

Dagupan City, led by Mayor Belen Fernandez, celebrates its 78th founding anniversary through a historical mass tree planting activity held at the Bonuan Tondaligan Ferdinand Blue Beach on Friday morning, June 20.

Bearing on the theme “Punla ng Pamilya, Puno ng Pag-Asa”, at least 1,800 representatives from different offices and agencies altogether planted 1,000 Narra trees and 500 Coconut trees as part of the rehabilitation process of turning the city’s 60-year-old dumpsite into a ‘fun site’ where an eco-tourism park would soon rise.

Mayor Fernandez opened the morning program, sharing her message of gratitude to all participants while stressing the significance and relation of the monumental activity as a positive symbolic and concrete representation of the city’s future.

“This year’s celebration is more than an anniversary; it is a leading narrative of the seed of family, sown with love and courage that can grow into a tree of hope and beneath that tree, the people of Dagupan stand strong, committed and ready for the future,” she stated.

The local chief executive, together with city officials and LGU employees, also led the ceremonial wreath laying earlier in the morning, 7 AM, at the Eugenio Perez park located at barangay Herrero-Perez honoring the life and legacy of former house speaker Eugenio Perez Sr.

Acknowledged as the “Ama ng Dagupan,” the late speaker authored Republic Act 170 or the City Charter of Dagupan, which was signed into law by then-president Manuel Roxas on June 20, 1947, officially turning Dagupan into a city.

The morning-filled activity was joined by Vice Mayor Dean Bryan “BK” Kua, city councilors Jigs Seen, Dennis Canto, Marcelino Fernandez and Bradley Benavides, councilor-elect Christel Hillary “Tala” Paras and Engr. Karlos Reyna, DENR-CENRO Officer Engr. Noriel Nisperos, city philanthropist Dr. Ashok Vasandani, Department Heads, DepEd Dagupan, Barangay Councils, SK Federation, national agencies and volunteers from different private, religious and civic organizations.

The pivotal ecological initiative underscores the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Green Initiative (AGI) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 13 (Climate Action) and 15 (Life on Land) furthering the city’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship.

Taking place on the same day, the Local Government Unit of Dagupan provided a whole day of free services through the Sulong Dagupan Unliserbisyo Caravan at the city plaza.
