The Year of the Rat

(Message of Mayor Brian Lim during the flag-raising ceremony on January 27, 2020 at the city plaza.)

Magandang umaga sa inyong lahat, happy Chinese New Year!

Alam niyo po ba na ang rat is actually the first among all the animals in the Chinese zodiac sign?

According to the legend, the Jade Emperor was the one to establish the order of the animals in terms of the year.

Noong pagkakataong ‘yon, ang sabi ng Jade Emperor kung sino ang mauuna sa palasyo, siya ang mauuna sa horoscope animal in the Chinese Lunar Year. That is why the rat is the first one among all the zodiac signs in the Chinese horoscope.

The rat also symbolizes many things.

The rat is a very reproductive animal. At dahil masipag po ang daga, if you were born in the year of the rat, according to the horoscope, malapit sa iyo ang swerte.

I hope this Chinese New Year will symbolize not only the city being productive in the work that we do, and we as a city. I hope it will attract prosperity and fortune that will redound for the benefit of the people of Dagupan.
