DAGUPAN CITY – More than 70 students from Lyceum-Northwestern University who are beneficiaries of the city government’s MBTF scholarship program personally thanked Mayor Belen T. Fernandez for sending them to school.
They conveyed their gratitude when Mayor Fernandez was the keynote speaker during a training program held at LNU on October 2, attended by at least 500 student leaders.
Chariza Alap, who graduated under the MBTF scholarship program, personally thanked Mayor Fernandez during the event.
A resident of Barangay Calmay, Alap took up Travel Management studies while working as a part-time student assistant under the university’s Office of Student Affairs.
Alap is one of the 220 graduates produced by the Dagupan City government under the program. She is now currently working at the Bureau of Immigration.
“It’s an honor to be part of her scholarship program. I just want to say thank you for helping your scholars. I met with Mayor Fernandez today just to express my gratitude to her. It’s rare to find opportunities like these,” said Alap.
Meanwhile, the scholars presented are among the 1,345 scholars being supported by the city government under the program until they graduate.
In the same occasion, Mayor Fernandez encouraged the student leaders to fulfill their duties with a sense of responsibility and humility.
“You must serve neither for applause nor for recognition in social media but you must serve expecting nothing in return. Your work, your actions, your thoughts should be your novel effort to bring inspiration so that you become positive role models to your fellow students,” added Fernandez.(Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
