DAGUPAN CITY–Mayor Belen T. Fernandez encouraged the city’s best athletes to take a shot for the top spot when they compete in the 2018 Region 1 Athletic Association Meet.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the Dagupan City Athletic Association (DCAA) at CSI Stadia on Nov. 17, Fernandez expressed confidence that the city’s athletes can exceed their first runner-up finish in the last R1AA Meet held in Vigan City.
The theme of the activity was “Heart is the difference between those who attempt, and those who achieve”.
Saying that positive attitude of athletes will bring more honor for themselves, their schools and the city, Fernandez stressed: “I have always admired this trait in every child as a Mayor. That is why I am effused with delight and inspiration to serve our children whatever they need. It is truly inspiring to see our children achieve and that magic is contagious”.
Fernandez disclosed that the city government has never been more motivated than today to give everything to ensure that the children remain motivated in whatever skills, field of endeavor or study that they set their hearts into.
“Our programs and projects for our children – from our support to training, to building schools and classrooms, support to teachers, scholarships among others – all these are positive proofs and affirmation that we care for our children,” said Fernandez.
Mayor Fernandez assured her support to the city’s athletes in their journey to the next level, saying “rest assured that as your City Mayor, I will always be an advocate of children’s development, a friend, your cheerleader, and your biggest supporter in all your success.” .
The athletes who saw action in the Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg 2017 in Vigan City were also given due recognition during the closing ceremony.
Declared as over-all champion in the 2017 DCAA Meet was the Dagupan City National High School in the secondary level. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Nov. 18, 2017)
