DAGUPAN CITY – This city is set to make another history with the support of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) when it realizes its dream to become a Smart City of the North.
This when the city launched its e-smart Operation Center with DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Peňa as special guest along with DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano and DOST Region 1 Director Armando Q. Ganal.
The city’s e-smart Operation Center is a highly instrumented smart operation center and is a complimentary office to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in terms of disaster preparedness and resilience against climate change.
With the support manifested by the DOST, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez is in high spirit that she will be able to pursue a new chapter of growth for the city fueled by the spirit of innovation and discovery through science and technology.
“It simply delights me that DOST had our city on top of their mind for the roll out of a national program of worth like the three-day Science Caravan especially now that we are setting the stage to prime Dagupan as a serious investment destination in the North,” said Fernandez.
Fernandez disclosed that Dagupan is excited to join the league of Local Government Units throughout the country to push development through science and technology and contribute to the reform agenda of national growth of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
“As we mark our 70th platinum anniversary, we envision a new Dagupan to pursue a new chapter of growth as the fastest growing and foremost urban economy in Region 1. And with the growth center that will soon rise in our city, we will make another history by making Dagupan the Smart City of the North,” said Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/March 28, 2017)
