DAGUPAN RECEIVES MULTIPLE AWARDS AND CITATIONS

DAGUPAN CITY – “Whichever award we receive, kapag Dagupan City ang tinawag, lahat po tayong Dagupeños ang nabigyan ng award.”

This was stressed by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez as the awards recently garnered by the city were presented to department heads and government employees during the flag-raising ceremony at the city plaza on December 10.

Also present were Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Director James F. Fadrilan, Regional Child-Friendly Focal Person Hope Ordoño, Provincial Director Agnes De Leon, Pangasinan Cluster Leader Roger Daquioag and City Director Melinda Buada.

One of the awards shown was the coveted Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities conferred by President Rodrigo Duterte for which Dagupan was adjudged as Most Child-Friendly City in the country under the independent component city category.

“Our children are the sole reason why we are blessed with this award. Just as this inspires me, may this award serve as inspiration for all of you that we should always prioritize our children. We will continue to innovate and to think of greater programs not for awards or recognition, but for the betterment of our children,” said Mayor Fernandez.

Another citation presented is the “Masidhing Paghanga” award given by the DILG to the city in recognition of the its invaluable contribution and efforts towards effective and efficient delivery of basic services, which contributed to the continuous development of the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) program resulting to the successful implementation, promotion and sustainability of the PCF Program of the DILG.

Also turned over to the city were the regional and provincial awards for the Department of Trade and Industry’s Best Performing Shared Service Facilities (SSF) Project, which were given in recognition of the city’s excellent management of the bangus processing facility and in turn, increased sales, generated jobs and provided assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs.

City Agriculturist Emma Molina, who personally received the awards at Bauang, La Union last December 5, revealed that the bangus processing facility of the city was featured in the centerfold page of DTI’s first-ever ‘Unlad: Negosyo Para sa Progreso’ magazine which showed the SSF Success Stories in the region.

“I am very glad to award to our Mayor and the city the performances that we are able to get. This would not be possible if not for the support of all our Dagupeños,” added Molina.

The city also added another feather in its cap as the Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir, together with their conductor Virginia Llamas-Mendoza, presented the trophies they earned during the MBC National Choral Competition from December 4 to 8.

The BDCC, which was formed by Mayor Fernandez in 2015, earned two accolades – one as semi-finalist, and the other as 2nd runner up, during their stint in their competition.

Meanwhile, the Barangay Council of Malued also presented its citation during the 20th National GAWAD KALASAG Awards, for which the barangay was 1st runner up and national finalist for the Urban Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC) category.

In her message, Mayor Belen Fernandez thanked all government employees for their hard work which contributed to the city’s stellar performance in different aspects of public service.

“We are grateful to have all of these awards. This is product of our collective efforts as mayor, city officials, department heads, government employees and our volunteers. Let’s all continue to work together for the success of our programs for our children and the city. Sabi nga natin ‘Unliserbisyo tungo po sa pag-asenso’.” added Fernandez. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
