Public servants, families, students, and tourists have once again gathered, sparking holiday cheer in celebration of the yuletide season at the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony this evening, December 9, at the City Plaza.
Guided by its central theme of “Pamilya ang Puso ng Pasko,” the city officially lit up its 45-foot-tall Christmas tree, formally opening its month-long fiesta.
Alongside the giant Christmas tree set in front of the Dagupan City Museum, several landmarks glowed with different lights, including the decorations in the city plaza, the much-anticipated “Silew-Silew” at the Quintos and Magsaysay Bridges, as well as the Christmas tree located at the Rotonda Square.
Mayor Belen Fernandez shared her words of gratitude, emphasizing that these lights symbolize the true promise of what the city envisions for every Dagupeño in the coming year.
“These lights symbolize a promise, as we look forward to 2025 [2026], Dagupan will continue to shine not just with vibrant decorations but with programs that uplift the families and empower the youth, support our senior citizens, strengthen our education, and advance our economic growth,” the local chief executive said.
City Councilor and 2025 Fiesta Hermano Mayor Michael Fernandez further emphasized this year’s theme, dedicating the event to every family in the community and those who were heavily affected by Typhoon Uwan.
“Ito hong Christmas tree ho natin, Christmas lighting sa tulay at sa buong downtown area hanggang De Venecia Highway ay dedicated po natin sa lahat ng mga pamilya lalong lalo na po sa mga nasalanta.”
Gracing the festive activity are Vice Mayor Dean Bryan “BK” Kua, City Councilors Atty. Joey Tamayo, Christel Hillary “Tala” Paras, Jeslito “Jigs” Seen, Engr. Karlos Reyna IV, Danielle “Danee” Canto, Dra. Jalice “Jaja” Cayabyab, Luis “Chito” Samson Jr., Marvin Fabia, Marcelino Fernandez, Bradley Benavides, City Legal Officer Atty.
