DAGUPAN CITY HONORED WITH ‘GAWAD PAGKILALA SA MGA KABALIKAT SA PANGISDAAN’

Dagupan City was honored by the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) with the Gawad Pagkilala sa Mga Kabalikat ng Pangisdaan during the celebration of the 62nd Fish Conservation Week on Monday, September 30, in San Fernando, La Union.

The award cited Dagupan’s agriculture and livelihood programs that continue to strengthen the city’s fisheries industry and support the welfare of fisherfolk and aquaculture stakeholders.

On behalf of the city government, City Agriculturist Mae Ann Salomon received the award in ceremonies held Monday at San Fernando, La Union. This year’s celebration carries the theme, “Pangisdaang Masagana, Sapat na Isda Para sa Bawat Pamilya.”

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez lauded the recognition, saying it affirms the city’s long-standing role as the country’s bangus capital.

“Ang parangal na ito ay hindi lamang para sa Dagupan LGU, kundi para sa lahat ng mangingisda at pamilya na patuloy nating pinaglilingkuran. Patunay itong kaya nating pagsabayin ang kaunlaran at pangangalaga sa ating yamang-tubig,” the mayor said.

Dagupan, known as the country’s bangus (milkfish) capital, has been pursuing initiatives to sustain its aquaculture industry while supporting the livelihood of fishing communities.
