DAGUPAN CITY – The Paseo de Belen along the De Venecia Highway Extension Road is now open following its formal opening on December 7.

Now on its third year as the grandest attraction of the Dagupan City Fiesta, the Paseo De Belen will again spice up the Yuletide season for Dagupeños and visitors to enjoy.

Pangasinan Fourth District Rep. Christopher De Venecia and Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, 2018 City Fiesta Hermano Mayor Councilor Jeslito “Jigs” Seen, Event Chair and Liga ng mga Barangay President Dean Bryan Kua, along with other city and barangay officials, led the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon that signaled  the opening of the attraction.

The carnival and fair nearby the Paseo De Belen is also now open for families and guests to enjoy.

The fiesta highlight is a pet project of Mayor Fernandez, who initiated to put all the nativity scenes from all barangays in one place.

This provides an avenue where Dagupeños can view each barangay’s artistic interpretation of the Nativity scene (belen) in one venue. Paseo means plaza.

All 31 barangays participating in the Search for the Best ‘Belen’  were given one month to prepare, with each nativity scene having a floor area of six meters by six meters for their creative tableaus.

Event Chair and Liga ng mga Barangay President Dean Bryan Kua thanked all the barangays for participating in the search for the best ‘belen’ competition.

“It makes me happy to see the collective efforts of all the barangays for the success of this event. This is the product of all the hardwork put in by our barangay chairmans, kagawads and even our volunteers. This just goes to show our unity. Hindi kami magsasawang gawin ito taon-taon para sa mga mahal nating Dagupeno,  added Kua.

Each nativity scene entry will be judged according to durability and stability, craftsmanship, interpretation of the nativity scene and innovation of traditional ‘belen’ format.

All ‘belens’ should also be made colorful and well-illuminated.

First place winner will receive P50,000; second place, P30,000; and the third placer will receive P20,000. Winners will be announced during the Barangay Night on December 27 at the city plaza. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
