In a renewed push to intensify the city’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable community, households in the 31 barangays are now strictly urged to comply with proper waste segregation practices as the local government bolsters its “No Segregation, No Collection” policy.
Facilitated by the Waste Management Division (WMD), the City Government of Dagupan has launched a conference on Waste Segregation for barangay councils, accompanied by their Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairmen, held this morning, January 26, at the Emerald Hall, CSI Stadia.
Mayor Belen Fernandez heavily stressed the importance of segregation in improving the city’s solid waste management system.
“Kapag hindi tayo naghihiwalay ng basura sa pinanggalingan nito, kahit gaano pa karaming truck, kagamitan, at pasilidad ang ilaan natin, babalik at babalik ang problema. Ngunit kapag maayos ang segregation sa barangay level, bababa ang basura sa dumpsite, bibilis ang koleksiyon, gaganda ang recycling, at lalakas ang environmental protection.” the local chief executive said in her speech.
A significant part of the city’s accomplishment is the closure of its 60-year-old dumpsite, where an eco-tourism park would soon rise, establishing Bonuan as a solid tourist destination in northern Luzon.
As of 2026, the city has seven (7) new garbage trucks, six (6) mini color-coded trucks for proper waste segregation, one (1) loader, two (2) backhoes and plans to acquire an additional hundred (100) garong or cargo trikes to be distributed in all barangays.
Present in the event were Committee on Environment & Natural Resources Chair Councilor Jeslito “Jigs” Seen, Liga ng Barangay President Kap. Marcelino Fernandez, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Bradley Benavides, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Officer Chester Casil, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Officer Engr. Noriel Nisperos, EMB Region 1 Senior Environmental Management Specialist Nazar Heto Velasco, EMB Region 1 Environmental Monitoring Officer Genrev Cruz, Consultant on Environment Atty. Gil Aromin, Waste Management Division Chief Bernard Cabison, City Engineer Josephine Corpuz, CHO Sanitation Division led by Arminda Claveria and LGU department heads.
The city government calls on every resident to participate in this revitalised initiative to observe proper waste segregation guidelines and promote environmental sustainability in all barangays.
