DAGUPAN CITY—In a city that reflects its Mayor’s undivided attention and concern for the children, a 120-day feeding program was successfully launched in Barangay Pugaro by the City Nutrition Office.

Aside from feeding, physical check-ups, deworming, vitamin supplementation and lectures have also been undertaken, resulting in a significant  drop of  percentage of underweight children by  two-thirds after 120 days.

The continuing success of the program can be measured   in the increase of the number of children with normal weight.

The feeding program is only one of many programs under the “Batang Belen—Busog Lusog sa Tamang Nutrisyon” which is part of  Mayor Fernandez’s plans for the children of Dagupan. Personal hygiene is also one contributing factor in the improvement of the children’s condition.

With the Inner Wheel Club of the Philippines as one of the city’s partner, Dr. Nene Villaflor of the Villaflor Hospital urged the mothers to monitor their children’s hygiene and give personal care and attention to therm till they gain weight.

The organizations who helped carry out one of Mayor Belen Fernandez’s plans for the youth by participating in the feeding program are the Inner Wheel Club of the Philippines, along with the Inner Wheel Club of Dagupan, and District 375 which is the city’s partner under the Angat-Buhay Projects of Vice President Leni Robredo.

With the combined efforts from several non-government organizations, children in every barangay will no longer continue to be malnourished. (Marie Verdelle Jenica M. De Vera/CIO/Jan 5. 2018)
