DAGUPAN CITY –  Barangay II and III was finally declared drug-free by the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) and the Dagupan City Police Station (DCPS) on November 17.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, CADAC chairman, and DCPS Chief of Police P/Superintendent Franklin M. Ortiz, vice chairman, signed the declaration of Barangay II and III as drug- free barangay, the last of the 31 barangays of the city to gain such status.

Ortiz said the declaration makes Dagupan a candidate for a drug-free city.

“We are hoping that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency will soon make the announcement declaring Dagupan City as a drug free city before the end of this year after validating all our documents,” Ortiz said.

In meeting with the barangay council headed by Punong Barangay Robert L. Melecio, Mayor   Fernandez sought their cooperation and assistance in keeping with the city’s thrust of a drug-free city.

She enjoined the barangay officials to constantly monitor their area of responsibility against drug peddlers.

“Our city is now gearing towards progress as we have already instilled change or pagbabago in our government. As your city mayor just feel free to approach me. Feel free to avail of our services in the city as well,” said Fernandez.

A week earlier, Barangay Pugaro was also declared drug-free by CADAC and DCPS.

With Barangay II and III completing the list of barangays already cleared of drugs, there is no more road block ahead for the whole of Dagupan to become a drug-free city, said Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani/Nov. 17, 2017)
