DAGUPAN CITY – The Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir (BCC) clinched the 2nd runner up title in the MBC National Choral Competition after besting Batanes National High School during the grand finals held at the Aliw Theater on December 8.
The group sung the contest piece entitled ‘Paskong Anong Saya’, the novelty song ‘Girl In the Mirror’ , and ‘Canticum Animae’, the elective piece selected by the jury as required in the competition.
For this, BDCC received a trophy and cash prize of P30,000, in addition to the P15,000 cash prize earlier received by the group for winning the competition’s semi-final round..
The awards were presented to Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, city department heads and government employees during the regular Monday flag-raising ceremony on December 10.
In that occasion, Mayor Fernandez pledged her support for the BDCC so that it can join more national and international events in the coming years.
“They have the opportunity and the chance, and most of all the gift of God– they have their voices. And while some of us are not blessed with the same talents, we have our support to give to them.” said Fernandez.
She also shared her plans to hold a concert for the BDCC as well as fund-raising events to support their future competitions.
“We should all come together to support these children because they are the pride of our city.” added Fernandez. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
