Sixty (60) student leaders officially took their oath as members of the Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran (MYK) 2026 on Monday, June 15, marking the start of a week-long leadership immersion program of the Dagupan City Government in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Dagupan City Plaza, where the student leaders from public and private schools formally assumed their roles as counterparts of city officials and department heads. From June 15 to 22, they will gain firsthand experience in governance, leadership, and public service.
Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) secured the majority of seats in the MYK executive council, with Alessandra Bela G. Dailey elected as Young City Mayor and Cherrie Faith O. Llamas as Young City Vice Mayor.
DCNHS also produced four young councilors: Christian Karl D. De Guzman, Micko Florando N. San Agustin III, Jeremy Calderon, and Quinn Samantha Balagtas.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez administered the oath of office and underscored the importance of the program in developing future leaders while fostering collaboration between the youth and local government.
“For one week, they will be working as public servants just like us, so we make sure we mentor and train them through our practice of good governance. Good governance means transparency, compassion, accountability, and humility,” Fernandez said.
She encouraged the young leaders to make the most of the opportunity by immersing themselves in public service and sharing fresh ideas that could help improve city programs and services.
Before their appointment, the students underwent a series of leadership trainings, interviews, and elections conducted from June 12 to 14 at the Division Training Center to ensure a fair and thorough selection process.
The Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran program serves as Dagupan City’s youth leadership development initiative, providing students with practical exposure to governance and civic responsibility while preparing them for future roles in public service.
