In partnership with the City Government and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), the Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) Dagupan Council kicked off its 2025 Girl Scout Week celebration with a tree planting and clean-up drive on Friday morning, September 5, at the One Bonuan Tourism Pavilion, where nearly 900 volunteers planted a total of 1,200 seedlings composed of 500 coconut trees and 700 acacia trees along the shores of Bonuan Tondaligan Ferdinand Blue Beach.
The local chief executive, now serving as GSP Dagupan Council President, Belen T. Fernandez, thanked all participants in the activity and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting a cleaner and greener future.
“Just last June 20, during the celebration of Agew na Dagupan, we planted 1,600 trees along this very shoreline. Today, we continue what we started because our theme, “Punla ng Pamilya, Puno ng Pag-asa,” reminds us that every tree we plant is not only a seed for the earth, but also a seed of hope for our future”, the mayor said.
Mayor Belen reiterated that the activity aligns with the local government’s plan of turning the city’s 60-year-old dumpsite into a fun site where an Eco-Tourism park would soon rise.
Among those who joined the activity were Council Executive Lerma Nicomedez, GSP Dagupan Council Vice President Filipina Delos Santos, City Agriculturist Mae Ann Salomon, OIC Conservation Development Section Chief and Forester II Dyesebel Amok, Project Development Officer IV Dr. Chricept Viloria, CENRO Dagupan, and Troop Leaders and Girl Scouts from different public schools of the city: Salapingao National High School, Carael National High School, Dagupan City National High School, East Central Integrated School, Judge Jose De Venecia Senior Technical Vocational Secondary School & Federico N. Ceralde Integrated School.
The green movement affirms the city’s steadfast commitment to upholding environmental care and responsibility.
